Q. Can I request specific colors to use?
A. Yes; If there are any specific colors you want to use you can request to have them used. I want this to be a painting that is very personable for you. Whatever colors you would like to include, I will eventually balance out to make sure it is a complete painting. If you don't have any preference, however, that is completely fine as well.
Q. Do I have to pay all at once?
A. No; you can either pay all at the beginning or half at the beginning, half once the painting is completed. For all information please check out the Painting Order Agreement.
Q. Does the price include shipping and handling?
A. No; You can either find the shipping and handling while you are checking out (after entering your shipping information) or if you send me a message I will let you know what that would be.
Q. Can a frame be included around my painting?
A. Absolutely; each frame I make is handmade to fit any size painting. The frames I make are shadow frames made from wood. They are black on the outside and colored on the inside to enhance the actual painting. If that is something you would like included, that could be added no problem.
Q. How much is it to add a frame?
A. Depending on the size, each frame will be 20% of the cost of the painting plus the shipping and handling. For example, for a painting that is 10” x 10” ($130), the frame would be $26.
Q. Can I ask for commissioned paintings of pets?
A Any commissioned oil painting I do can be of a person or animal. As long as you have photo references, I can create the painting. Commissioned paintings of pets is one of my favorite subjects. If you are interested in a more personalized painting, please check out How to Order a Personalized Painting.
Q. What materials are used in creating a painting.
A. All paintings are created on hand-stretched heavy cotton canvas or primed panels which are very durable and sturdy supports. The oil paints I use are from Williamsburg, Gamblin, and Old Holland so your custom piece is the best quality possible. I only use pigments with high lightfastness to assure the color won’t drastically fade over time. All of my oil paints are mixed with Walnut Oil as well since it has less of a yellowing effect than other mediums. When the painting is complete, I varnish each piece with Gamvar to help the painting look fresh and protect the final image.
Q. How long does it take to complete a painting once it is commissioned?
A. It can vary from piece to piece. Each painting can take 1 to 2 months to fully be ready to ship once the commission has started. I will make sure your painting is completely dry to the touch before it is shipped to you.
Q. How do I clean the painting?
A. After a few months, if the painting starts to collect a little dust it is very easy to clean. Just take a moist, soft rag and lightly wipe across the painting and frame. Each painting has a layer of varnish, which will protect the actual paint itself. Just make sure not to scrub too much, otherwise that could start to damage the painting later on.
